Midnight blue jansenist morocco, spine with 5 nerves titled in gold (minimal rubbing), edges decorated with a triple gilt fillet, t. gilt, gilt head and neck boards, yellow cover cons. In marbled paper-covered cardboard case. Beautiful copy. Partly original edition, "Réflexions" having already been published. Ex. of the current edition justified with the green trefoil, the large papers having been limited to 12 hollandes. Ex. of the press office with a slight "service" stamp on the lower cover. Autograph signed letter to André Fontainas. Sober unsigned binding but of excellent workmanship. Ref. Naville XII. Prov. André Fontainas (1865-1948), French poet, literary critic and art critic, of Belgian origin; Gide and Fontainas maintained an essentially literary correspondence which began in 1893 and ended in 1938.
