BRETON, André; SOUPAULT, Philippe Les champs magnétiques. Paris Au Sans Pareil (30/5/1920) Small in-8°. Bradel aubergine morocco with framing signed Delapierre, handmade paper boards in light or dark blue, purple and black tones, spine titled in gold, cream cover and spine cons. (slightly browned). First edition with dummy mention of 2nd edition on cover, only the 180 numbered copies having been considered by René Hilsum as the original. Ex. on vergé bouffant, without the portrait of the authors by Picabia as it should be. "First purely surrealist work" in the words of Breton in the "Manifesto of Surrealism". [...] From the "Magnetic Fields" onwards, Surrealism will set itself the task of overturning the organization of language as a reflection of social organization" (Biro). Autographed letter from Soupault to Christian Bussy "with my sympathy one of the first 300 copies". Enriched with an illustrated autographed postcard (signature not very legible) to André Breton, Arkangelsk [Russia], "9/22 July" [1930 ?]. Philippe Soupault traveled to Russia in 1930. The card shows people in local costumes. Soupault describes the colours of their costumes and houses; he will send her as soon as he can "a vast letter-diary". Ref.
