Carved and ink painted wooden Italian chest. Venice. 16th century.  Important example of Renaissance Venetian furniture, finely decorated with incision work which is enhanced with ink, depicting palatial scenes, vegetation and angel musicians. Profuse decoration surrounds the lock. The internal part of the lid is decorated in the same way, meaning that the chest can be open and look as elegant as it does when closed.  73 x 187 x 70 cm.
