ANDERSON CHARLES G. W.: (1897-1988) South African-born Australian Lieutenant Colonel of World War II, Victoria Cross winner for his actions around Muar in January 1942. A.L.S., C. G. W. Anderson apologises for having been so long in answering his correspondent's letter and explains that he has no photographs ('perhaps because I am not very photogenic?'), further detailing his military service, '1914-18 served as a gunner in a Volunteer Battery from India, later commissioned into 2/3 King's African Rifles, Captain M.C., all my service in German East African Campaign. 1939-45 war commanded 2/19 Bn. A.I.F., Malaya V.C., 3 ½ years Burma Railway.' Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Anderson. VG
