General Bibliography: Edmond and Jules Goncourt, History of the French Society during the Revolution; on the Café Godet, held by "The limonadier Godet (...) a hot patriot (who) obtained the rank of captain in the battalion of the Fathers of Nazareth" pp.
163-164 (Paris 1928).
"A small drawing by Swebach, which represents him, does not give much idea of the outside luxury of a café of the Revolution. It is a rustic gallery on the ground floor, built of wood and topped with a tiled roof, largely lit by large windows with small panes. A canopy, supported on rough posts, lined with blinds, shelters the consumers. Bouquetières, forget-me-not sellers, and small hurdy-gurdy players line the surroundings"
