FERNANDO QUAGLIA (1780-1853) The Queen Julie Clary, in profile bust, circa 1824. Pencil drawing, signed lower right "Quaglia Fec" 32 x 24 cm. Gilt frame with palmettes, under glass. B.E. (Small rubs on the edge).

Ferdinand Quaglia (1780-1853)
Painter in miniature, 2 rue du Harlay, in the Palace, born in Piacenza, member of the academies of France and Florence, settled in Paris since 1805. He exhibited at the salons of 1808, 1812, 1814, 1817 and 1822. A great number of portraits, among which we will quote: Those of the grand duke of Wurtzbourg, duke of Abrantès in 1812; Of the duke and the duchess of Berry, in 1817; Of the queen of Sweden and Norway. One will still quote those of Napoleon, of the empress Josephine, a precious original portrait, which he still possesses. M. Quaglia obtained a gold medal in 1814. This artist is working on a thorough treatise on miniature painting.
