Very rare flintlock rifle, espingole, of the royal navy, of Louis XIV period: Barrel with sides then round, flared and flattened at the end, with a reinforced band of approximately 1 cm of width; length 88 cm, width to the thunder 48 mm, interior mouth 35 X 80 mm; the barrel is provided with two trunnions for the fixing of a articulated candlestick on the port. Large lock mounted by three screws; flat body stamped: ". C. LR" with a wheel, the whole in an oval; it is engraved with the marking of the port of Toulon: "NEC PLURIBUS IMPAR", in a banner, of two crossed anchors alternated of flowers of lily and a sun above; strong hammer with espalet; length 20,5 cm. Iron fittings, cut out, some engraved with foliage, fleur-de-lys and suns; cut out counter plate, decorated in the middle with a fleur-de-lys from which starts, on each side, a dolphin, holding an anchor in its mouth. Strong walnut stock, the barrel is held in the shaft by three screws on engraved iron rosettes. Wooden ramrod with iron tip. Total length 130 cm. (Engraving of the lock probably refreshed; old repair of the stock, at the back of the lock). Late 17th, early 18th century. Good condition for a piece of this type, extremely rare.
