Phuc Duyen TRAN (1923-1993). View of the Red River. Red, brown and gold lacquered wood panel. Signed in gold Duyen and dated 1950 lower right. Dimensions : 60x49,5 cm Mixing red and brown monochrome, this view of the Red River is animated by two boats and flags, emerging among banana trees, bamboos, coconut palms and flamboyant trees, finely enhanced with gold. The trees are subtly reflected in the water thanks to the shades of lacquer. Phuc Duyen Tran graduated from the Hanoi School of Fine Arts in 1946. His first works were inspired by the landscapes of Vietnam. In 1950, when this panel was painted, he was consecrated by the gift of one of his works by the Government of Vietnam to Pope Pius XII. In 1954, he moved to France where he studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He participated in numerous exhibitions, notably at the Club des 4 Vents in 1963. He then enjoyed international success. Five years later, he settled in Switzerland. His works show his great mastery of the art of lacquer and his attachment to his country. Expert : Pierre Ansas
