A MASSIVE GREY JADE ‘DOUBLE PEACH’ SCROLL WEIGHT China, Qing Dynasty, 17h-18th century Massive, carved as two peaches of longevity hanging on a gnarled branch with leaves. The stone in grey, black and russet tones. L: 12,5 cm – w: 9,3 cm Weight: 808 grams Provenance: An important collection of jade carvings, mostly Ming libation cups, properties from a French private collector, assembled over 20 years, pieces either bought privately or at public auction. Note: The peach (tao 桃) signifies the second month of the lunar calendar. The peach also symbolizes marriage, spring, justice and especially Daoist immortality (longevity).
