The compositions, due notably to Bertall, were executed for the most part on the spot.
Copy, quoted by Carteret (III, p. 31), in which off-texts 2, 4, 5 and 30 appear in double state, black and coloured.
It is complete with pages 469-72 occupied by a prospectus for the work and sometimes missing.

- an autograph letter signed by Vidocq, dated October 23, 1849, addressed to a lady (2 pp.
in-8), relating to an action taken against an indelicate debtor.
- an autograph note signed by the same, dated March 6, 1842, written on Vidocq's letterhead, Breveté du Roi, Ex-chef de la police de la sûreté...
- A printed statement by the same describing the activity of his administration, a private intelligence agency founded in 1833, addressed in the form of a letter to a Mr. H. Debray, in Arras (handwritten address).
