Private collection, France "Eugène Vail, tormented by the need for the ideal which is characteristic of the new artistic generation, has modified his first way of painting and in a more mysterious, more enveloping form of art, he translates ideas, feelings, of a certain broad and sensitive symbolism, of a seizing evocation, and he seeks to make us share his impression and his emotion. Eugène Vail is in full possession of his talent and he does not shy away from any interpretation. This is, moreover, the prerogative of all those who possess something other than the craft, i.e. the fine originality of the artist and the accurate observation of the thinker. His very broadly painted canvases without any mawkishness captivate the attention of connoisseurs, his pictures of high value whose rendering and tone are of singular power, of striking simplicity, and I will say that the range of tones is of a great softness and delicacy that befits the artist's dreams."
