Situla Vietnam, Đông Sơn culture, 3rd-1st century BCE, Bronze with archaeological patina, H. 20.8 cm This cylindrical situla is unique to the production of Đông Sơn. It is equipped with a pair of handles to which are added two eyelets designed to receive a mobile handle. The presence on its wall, as well as on the bottom, of a visible seam, indicates that it was obtained by means of a double mould. Its decoration, most often sober, consists of ornamental bands bordered by filets, containing geometric motifs (vertical hatching, pointed circles connected by tan-gentes) and blank spaces. Several examples of this type have been found in tombs in North Vietnam and were intended to contain food in the tombs.
