Attributed to David Loggan, English 1635-1692- Portrait miniature of a nobleman, traditionally held to be James Drummond, 3rd Earl of Perth (d.1675), quarter-length turned to the right, wearing front and back plate and embroidered tunic shirt, plumbago, oval, in a glazed oval gilded moulding frame, bears inscription on the reverse, 11.5 x 9 cm. Note: Loggan was an English Baroque artist who produced a number of portrait miniatures as plumbago drawings. One of his greatest achievements was producing a series of engravings of bird's-eye views of the colleges at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. The work has not been examined out of the frame. The backing to the frame is subject to water staining but this does not appear to have affected the work itself. Four nail holes to the reverse of the frame. The gilded frame is subject to a split lower left hand area. Small chips to the gilding here and there. Some minor discolouration in the work. There are three small holes at top edge, and some spots of foxing across the surface. There are some small holes to the sitter's chin, within the cravat, and in his hair to the right. There seems to be attempted retouching to these particular areas. Some faint marks around the edges of the sheet. Overall in good condition.
