The CB77 was Honda's first true sports motorcycle. It was with a CL77 that Dave Ekins raced the 1 600 km of the “Baja California” desert race. The CL77, contrary to popular belief, is not a “CB77 with high pipes”. The frame is different to offer a better ground clearance and the engine is set at 360° to deliver more torque at low revs. It's a specific model for a specific use: Honda style. The CL77 created a huge buzz when, in 1962, Dave Ekins (Bud‘s brother, Steve McQueen's stunt double) and Bill Robertson raced the 1,600 km of the "Baja California" desert race with two CL77s. This particular CL77 had the benefit of a full restoration with only 13,000 km on the clock since. The engine runs smoothly and everything works fine. Exhaust pipes (rarer than rare) are NOS. The electrical circuit and all the accessories are in perfect condition. Chrome and paint (in a typical Californian taste) are of good quality. This is a fabulous looking motorcycle, even more sought after than the CB, in perfect working order and ideal for long sporting duo rides. Documents supplied: French ‘carte grise'.
