Morgenstern, Carl Ernst. Munich 1847 - 1928 Wolfshau. Manor with cows at the drinking trough. Signed lower right. Oil/painted on canvas. Carl E. Morgenstern was a German landscape painter and etcher. Son and pupil of Christian E. B. Morgenstern, who was also a landscape painter at the court of Ludwig I of Bavaria. His teachers were Josef Schertel, Theodor Kotsch and Eduard Schleich. He made numerous study trips to other European countries. From 1883 he was appointed professor at the school of arts and crafts in Breslau. Under the influence of the Barbizon school he introduced open-air painting into the curriculum. He worked at this school until 1913. H: 87 x 115 cm. Wide stucco frame. H: 136 x 163 cm. Lit.
