LAMP DEPICTING GAJALAKSHMI Lot n° 47

Bronze India , 18th century Weight: 4163 grams Dimensions: 38 x 27 x 22 cm A massive bronze oil lamp with round foot with decorative bands. In the center is a round multi-leveled base with a cross-legged Gaja-Lakshmi, meaning Lakshmi with elephants. She is dressed in opulent jewellery and is wearing a large head crown. She is flanked by two standing elephants raising their trunks above Lakshmi's head. They are positioned in an open-work half-circle with ornamental decoration. on the sides we see more adorants and consorts playing instruments or holding objects. The top of the lamp is decorated with an arch with two mystical creatures on the end, in the center we see a seated Ganesha.
