Mammoth Tusk carved Japan , 19th century Weight: 442 grams Dimensions: Height 16,5 cm with base Wide 7 cm Depth 7 cm with base An intricately carved piece of mammoth tusk depicting a seated old man with long beard and hair done up in a bun. He is holding a carp or fish in his right hand. His robe is finely decorated with geometrical and floral ornaments. A bamboo hat is hanging down on the back of his head. The elderly scholar seems delighted by the good catch.
