LETTER FROM CANNIERE L.A.S. by Jean-Nicolas NOIRON, Mayence 28 July 1813, to his parents at Trépail (Marne); 2 1/4 pages in-4, headed Département du Mont-Tonnerre and engraved and coloured vignette, address with postmark of the Grande Armée (cracks on 2nd leaf). He arrived on the 25th at Mayence: "I made the road from Chalons to Mayeance without having any injury"; Napoleon reviewed them on the place of arms, and they are going to leave for Spain. He has passed through Verdun, "a beautiful and well fortified city", through Metz... Indications on the price of food... Etc. Beautiful and large coloured vignette representing a soldier armed with his rifle, framed by two medallions representing Napoleon Emperor and Marie-Louise.
