TAVARES René (born 1983, Sao Tome and Principe) "Flogá mina anzu", 2018. Mixed media on canvas, signed and dated lower right. 140 x 130cm. Very slight lack of material above the heads. Lives and works between Sao Tomé and Lisbon. René TAVARES trained at the School of Fine Arts in Dakar, Rennes and Lisbon. In 2011, he obtained a master's degree in art science from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon. Solo exhibitions in Sao Tome, Paris, Bordeaux, Evora and his participation in the International Biennial of Art of Sao Tome give him an international stature. René Tavarès translates in strokes, lines and spots, a synthesis of his own identity, positioning himself in constant movement between present and past references, contemporary reality and colonial history. René Tavarès reflects through his own experience of contemporary displacement in European and African latitudes.
