Karan Wenba" hardwood mask with old patina, some localized erosion and marks of use. It presents a cubist face delimited by a triangular point ridge. The center of the forehead is adorned with two antelope horns, surmounted by a rectangular crest with a stylized female figure at its tip. Mossi, Burkina Faso, 19th century. H: 96 cm. Provenance: - Former Loed Van Bussel collection, Amsterdam. - Former Cornelis Pieter Meulendijk collection (1912-1979). - Christie's London sale, 1980. - Galerie Valluet-Ferrandin, Paris, France. Note: This mask is distinguished by the representation of a female ancestor, which is extremely rare on this type of work.
