Edward Jakob von Steinle (1810-1887), Austrian painter, pupil at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, went to Rome in 1828, where he closely followed Friedrich Overbeck and Philipp Veit and stayed until 1834. Then went to Munich to learn fresco technique with Peter von Cornelius and subsequently to Frankfurt am Main, where he became first professor at the Städel Institute in 1850.
