in gilded frame, oil on canvas, W. 178 - H. 166 cm, Galleria Bernard Steinitz, Paris, Antichità Maurizio Nobile, Bologna, Coming from the Galleria Bernard Steinitz in Paris, this fine painting of a young man with a greyhound, most likely to be identified with Adonis, is by the painter Sophie Rude. A pupil of Jacques-Louis David, this artist married the famous sculptor François Rude, for whom she modelled the figure of the Genius of War in the frieze depicting the Departure of the Volunteers, known as 'The Marseillaise', on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
