Rome 1960. Alain Mimoun, marathon © L'Équipe 10 September 1960. Alain Mimoun is tireless. Ever since he almost had his leg amputated in the battle of Monte Cassino in Italy in 1944, the Algerian-born son of a countryman has been running. There, in the streets of Rome, at the age of 39, he only finished 34th in the marathon. No matter, Mimoun was already a legend in French sport. After three silver medals in the 10,000m (1948, 1952) and 5,000m (1952), he became Olympic marathon champion in 1956. He ran again to win, at the age of 45, his last French championship title. He finally ran in 2004, during the Olympic torch relay in Paris before heading to Athens. He died nine years later, aged 92. His legend is still alive. Single later print. Edition 1/1. Black and white piezographic print on Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta Satin 300g paper. Flamant art frame. 40 x 60 cm
