Memoires sur les brigues à la mort de Louys XIII, les Guerres de Paris et de Guyenne, et la Prison des Princes. Cologne [Brussels], Pierre van Dyck [François Foppens], 1662. Small in-12, red morocco, triple fillet, spine decorated, inner lace, gilt edges (18th century binding). Second original edition. It reproduces line for line the first edition, procured the same year by François Foppens, except that the mistakes - numerous in the original - have been corrected and the errata subsequently removed. The buffalo headband is upside down on p. 1, and pp. 237, 276 and 279 are incorrectly numbered 137, 376 and 379. The Memoirs of the moralist, who was one of the leaders of the Fronde des Princes in 1650-1653, are, with those of the Cardinal de Retz, among the most important for the history of the Fronde. They are followed, in pp. 277-384, by the Memoirs of Edme de La Chastre on what happened at the end of the life of Louis XIII and at the beginning of the Regency. Nice copy bound in red morocco in the 18th century. It measures 132 mm, 2,5 mm longer than the Rochebilière copy. From the libraries of Arthur Atherley (1772-1844), Whig MP for Southampton elected four times between 1806 and 1832, with bookplate, and Robert James Hayhurst (1929-2016), pharmacist and collector from Nelson, Lancashire (2019, I, no. 592), with bookplate. Small wetness at the head of the 2 introductory ff. Tchemerzine, IV, 27 - Rochebilière, n°437 - Brunet, III, 848 - Willems, n°1977 - Bourgeois & André, n° 803.
