Paris, Simon de Colines and Galliot du Pré, 1543. 2 parts in one volume in-8, red morocco, triple gilt fillet, four-lobed medallion in the centre decorated with small gilt irons, spine decorated, inner lace, gilt edges (17th century binding). First separate edition of the New Testament established by John Benoit, extracted from the in-folio Bible published in 1541 by the same publishers. The Epistles of St. Paul have a special title page and foliation. All editions of the Bible given by John Benoit (1483-1573), parish priest of the Saints-Innocents, were put on the Index. Beautiful red morocco binding decorated in the early seventeenth century. Handwritten bookplate of Louis Cornillier on a guard and of the Oratoire de Montmorency on the title, with stamps. Half of the first 8 leaves have been redone in old pen and ink. Hinges a little rubbed, two corners dulled.
