Icones historiarum Veteris Testamenti. Lyon, Jean Frellon, 1547. Small in-4, stiff vellum (Binding of the time). Famous suite by Hans Holbein the Younger, of which this is one of the masterpieces, woodcut by Hans Lutzelberger.
It consists of 94 half-page vignettes illustrating the Old Testament, renowned for their beauty and finesse of execution, each accompanied by a Latin epigram and a French quatrain by Gilles Corrozet.
On the penultimate leaf are printed four medallions with the effigies of the evangelists which were not found in the previous editions.
