HAMILTON Royal Navy Gousset navigation watch No. 3992B, 1942 White enamel dial with Arabic numerals, center seconds hand, marked with the British Army arrow, serial No. 216, contained in its mahogany case, marked on the back: "Navigation master watch MFRS part No. 3992 B, serial No. 216 - 1942, Hamilton watch Co. Last period of the oils marked in pencil: 1964. Diameter: 5,2 cm. Comment: History: In 1942, the supply of Swiss chronometers being interrupted, the British army called upon the American Hamilton watch company. These Master navigation watches were the second most important on-board chronometer, intended to replace the main timepiece in case the latter should fail. Exhibition: An identical watch is on display at the Royal Maritime Museum in London.
