The young woman is as if withdrawn into herself. Her drawing is reduced to the simple outline of the face, with that slight trembling of the hand that translates the emotions that lie beneath the skin. In spite of the purity of the line, we feel the structure of the face, its density, the power of the character. The eyes and the mouth, underlined with charcoal black, condense its tensions. The background of the composition defines her flesh, a material inked with tears, sometimes powdery and vaporous, delicately stained by the passage of feelings.
