According to Aristotle, matter and form are inseparable: one is inconceivable without the other. What lies amuses itself with this notion. In one of the images, we would have the form, the outline, in the other, the matter, the solid (earth, rock, vegetation). Yet each image reveals how inseparable the two are. For, even if they are sunken, forms remain perceptible in the matter. Matter is never unformed. And when we try to detach the form from the matter, the latter is torn away with it. What remains are intriguing images in which reality seems to have undergone strange distortions.
