The battle of Pozzuolo del Friuli was fought at the end of October 1917 between the Cavalry of Genoa and the Lancers of Novara of the 3rd Army against the German forces who were trying to cut the line of retreat after the defeat of Caporetto. For "the high valor and sublime spirit of sacrifice" shown in battle, the banners of the two regiments received the silver medal.
