Discoid fibula with filigree decoration, the center of which holds a rectangular box containing a blue glass cabochon.
Merovingian period, 7th century.
Electrum, glass paste.
D. 3,6-3,8 cm ES
A few apparent watermarks missing, trace of soldering on the back, otherwise good condition.
The surface of the object is covered with a delicate filigree design. Twisted and smooth threads underline the edge of the disc, then
then draw a star pattern around the cabochon mounted in a frame, frame also decorated with filigree. Subtlety
technical subtlety, the embossed work brings a little volume to the circular decoration.
The richness of the material and the complexity of its ornamentation make this object an exceptional piece of jewellery.
