Pomdo" sculpture representing a notable character carrying a chassemouche. Kissi, Guinea. Carved stone. Rare. Beginning of the 20th century. H 18 cm. Base included: H 21 cm.
The Pomtan are enigmatic figures whose origin remains mysterious. They were discovered, buried in the ground, by the Kissi of Guinea. For them, these figures possess magical powers and are used as powerful ancestor figures.
