Statuette "Yanda" representing a female character. Quality sculpture with pure plastic. Zandé, DRC. Carved wood and metal. Very rare. Early 20th century. H 18 cm. Base included: H 22 cm
This type of statuette had a therapeutic and protective function, and was sometimes used to formulate divinatory omens. The name "Zande" means "the people who own much land", and refers to their history as conquerors and warriors.
