Miniature "Lukwakongo" mask. Lega, DRC. Carved wood with remnants of kaolin. Period: 1930/1940. H 22 cm including base X 8 cm
These small masks are often attached to special supports for display, or on the body of a member of the semi-secret Bwami society. They represent revered ancestors and are passed down from generation to generation.
