Protective snake leg amulet. Gan people, Burkina Faso. Bronze. 1st quarter of the 20th century. L 20 cm This piece, which belonged to a person of high lineage, was intended to be worn on the lower thigh to ward off disease and other dangers such as snake bites. Provenance: collection of Dr. Smitz, Belgium. A certificate from Mr Humblet accompanies this work.
