ITALY, VENICE, 16th CENTURY
Colorless glass lamp with a bulbous body fitted with three suspension handles, a high flared neck and a small pedestal. Decorated with enamelled registers in cobalt blue, white, gold with yellow, green and red highlights, decorated with two bands of pseudo-inscriptions in the Mamluk style, in white on the body and in blue on the neck, encircled by a gilded and pearled braid, slightly iridescent interior.

Height : 14,5 cm. 14.5 cm, diam. 8 cm.
This small Venetian lamp takes the shape and decoration of the Mamluk lamps with enamelled decoration. Its lively decoration and its friezes of small dots are characteristic of Venice at the end of the 15th and beginning of the 16th century (exhibition catalogue, Venice and the Orient 828-1797, Institut du Monde Arabe, Gallimard, Paris, 2006, cat. 164 and 166, pp. 266-67).
