Ferry Porsche was in charge of the technical design and his son was responsible for the styling. He tried in every way to create a cockpit that was suitable to accommodate four people. Soon, however, he gave up this enterprise and fell back on the classic 2+2. Immediately the line of the car turned out to be elegant and balanced. The first version was presented in 1963 and is still in production, although it is fair to distinguish two very different categories. The first one was produced from 1963 to 1997 and has always the air-cooled engine, the second one was produced from 1998 to today and has modern engines. In 1965 to replace the outgoing 356 Porsche debuted the 912, this was an economic variant of the most famous Porsche 911, the 912 retained the body coupé (and from 1966 also targa) and the entire mechanical, apart from the engine, which was the 4-cylinder air-cooled boxer 1584 cm³ of 90 hp of the last Porsche 356 SC. Simplified, compared to the 911 also the interior. It was put into production as a transitional model between the exit of the 356 SC and the arrival of the Volkswagen-Porsche 914. It obtained a good success, thanks to the aesthetic identity with its bigger 6-cylinder sister and to the considerably lower list price. The performance was modest, but the low consumption compensated. Its production ceased at the end of 1969 to make way for the 914, but in 1976 a small series of 912 E with a 2-litre, 4-cylinder boxer engine (of Volkswagen origin) with fuel injection and 86 hp was produced for the North American market. The magnificent example we are offering at auction is one of the very first examples of Porsche 912 (1965) in excellent condition. The car is characterized by some peculiarities of great importance in the world of Porsche collecting. Starting from the colour (maybe the most beautiful in the Porsche colour range) Irish Green cod.6406 that covers the whole bodywork. Continuing for the interiors that are partly preserved (the two front seats have been redone), it is equipped with the three original instruments on the dashboard, and moreover this example is one of the few to have the dashboard in color with the bodywork. The engine has been completely disassembled, checked, cleaned and reassembled as originally (and runs like clockwork) and to date has traveled about 100 km. The car is equipped with all its original documentation (original booklet, Porsche coupon booklet, Porsche owner's manual). The car will be auctioned at Milano AutoClassica 2021 in perfect condition for those who want a ready-to-use car or for those who are looking for a unique example for a high-level restoration.
