To launch this new department, still unknown to the customers, they decided to create 911s in limited edition and in only 400 pieces, all destined to the American market. In 1978 the Porsche SC Weissach Edition was presented, so called in honour of the motorsport team that worked in Weissach. Many years before it was proposed as an option on the series production cars, this car was fitted with the whale tail rear wing. It was inspired by that of the 77 Carrera Turbo, but in this exact form could only be found on this edition. It was offered in only two colors, 200 examples in metallic black and 200 in metallic platinum. The magnificent specimen proposed by us in auction is one of the very few examples still surviving in Platinum color (to be exact there are only 86 left) known in the world as 911 3.0 SC Weissach Edition, intended for the U.S. market (exclusive) has been imported in Italy for several years, and has all the features that distinguished it from those of series. Examples are the 15'' Fuchs rims with a metallic platinum center, but perhaps the most significant feature is the exclusive interior, sporty turbo seats in perforated leather in Doric Grey with burgundy trim, which coordinate with the burgundy floor mats and the black perforated leatherette headliner. The car has been largely restored, especially in the bodywork and some parts of the interior, the engine has undergone a general overhaul in order to make it ready for any use, whether it be granturismo or in a sporty mood. The car is in excellent condition and is part of a beautiful collection of cars belonging to a gentleman of an esteemed Italian family. It will be auctioned together with two other cars from the same collection at Milano AutoClassica 2021 in excellent condition.
