Thus in 1989 the new Elan M100 spider was presented, inspired by its sister Elan R26. The chassis was made of steel monocoque and the body was entirely made of fibreglass and Kevlar in order to keep the weight of the car down. The engine of Isuzu origin, was a 4-cylinder inline engine powered by electronic injection and equipped with turbocharger, was mounted in front transverse position and was combined with a 5-speed transmission. The most important innovation adopted on this model was the front wheel drive, although it was a big change in style for Lotus, it was this that allowed to have a fast and precise car even with a sporty driving. The hourglass lines and the short and sloping nose, in which the retractable headlights were embedded, made it a modern and attractive car. The magnificent example offered by us at auction was registered for the first time in Italy in 1992. To date it has traveled only 53,510 km in almost 30 years of life. The car is in its original Yellow Mustard Lotus colour, with its original dark grey leather interior with yellow stripes. It has only had 3 previous owners and has always had all routine and special maintenance as expected. Today this car looks like a beautiful convertible, two seats in "British" sauce, destined to remain for its lines so attractive and its qualities as a true Lotus, an icon of reference for the current and even more for future generations of motorsport enthusiasts. The car has its original number plates, all its original documentation and is registered with the ASI historic register. The car will be auctioned at Milano AutoClassica 2021 in extraordinary conditions.
