Exceptional crystal, silver and vermeil perfume or salt bottle, ca 1840. Tapered shape, the bottle is sheathed with a silver and vermeil openwork frame decorated with dragons, arabesques of oriculars and trophies of instruments. The stopper is topped by a gallant scene of a young man playing the flute to a young woman near doves and a lamb, all allegories of love. H 14,7 cm. Marked with a boar and a circular scroll. Crystal neck stopper. Presented in its scalloped case. Note: Sotheby's sold in its sale of May 27, 2015, Lot 533 : "The Duchess Precious Objects and Property from the Estate of Mary, Duchess of Roxburghe" an almost identical model (same gallant scene, same dragons, etc.) except for the flat base here tapered where it attributed the piece to Jean Valentin Morel
The two pieces were perhaps created as pendants, one for the bedroom and this one for the handbag.
