Africa. TYI-WARA BAMANA MASKS. The TYI-WARA festival is a cult celebrating the invention of agriculture and the mysteries of sexuality. In order for the rains to fall on the fields, there are rites to be performed. The very elegant openwork sculptures emerge from their sanctuary with their long fibre coverings. As an object-sculpture, the TYI-WARA is known worldwide and has become one of the emblems of Africa. The proprietary dances are performed by pairs of TYI-WARA. It would be fatal for an assistant to pass between two masks. The dance will evoke the coupling of the sacred principles. The rain will come. H. 110cm. (Africa, African Art, Civilization and ethnic groups).
