JOAN MORA (Barcelona, 1944). "Archivist, 1997. Stone. Signed and dated. Measurements: 29 x 19 x 14 cm. Joan Mora Soler was born into a family with an artistic tradition, as his father was a marble carver. His first studies took place at the Llotja School in Barcelona, and he would later extend his training in Paris, at the École de Beaux-Arts. His work is mainly centred, perhaps due to paternal influence, on marble, which he is capable of working with great realism, managing to evoke textures and sensations. In fact, his pieces generally speak to us of everyday objects, of banal things, but which, transmuted by the power of the stone and the artist, acquire a great evocative power. In 1978 he held an important exhibition at the Miró Foundation in Barcelona. Since 1981 he has been a regular participant in the ARCO Fair in Madrid. Some of his works are exhibited in public spaces in cities such as Barcelona, where the monument to Mossén Clapés and the sculpture Barcelona Olímpica have been installed in the Casa de la Ciudad. In Lausanne, Switzerland, the Olympic Flag sculpture is on display at the IOC headquarters. Throughout his career, he has received various awards, grants and mentions. He won the Grand Prize at the V International Biennial of Valparaiso, in 1981, and the First Prize for sculpture at the XII International Biennial of Sport in the Fine Arts, in 1997 and 1999.
