Provenance: lagoon of the Philippines or Polynesia. To be compared with the pair of shells offered by the Doge of Venice as a diplomatic gift to François I. Mounted as holy water fonts by the sculptor Pigalle, they are kept today in the church of Saint-Sulpice in Paris.
