The Fisher King. Paris, José Corti, 1948. In-12, paperback, uncut, navy blue morocco jacket and slipcase (P. Goy & C. Vilaine). First edition.
One of the 45 first copies on vélin du Marais.
Julien Gracq's only play, inspired by the Arthurian myth and Wagner's Parsifal, Le Roi pêcheur (The Fisher King) narrates the failure of Perceval at the Grail castle. The play, which premiered on April 25, 1949 at the Théâtre Montparnasse, was poorly received by the public, in spite of Leonor Fini's remarkable sets and the brilliant performances of Maria Casarès, Jean-Pierre Mocky, Jacqueline Maillan and Monique Chaumette.
A very nice copy in a paperback binding, in a case and folder made by Patrice Goy and Carine Vilaine.
Small incident with minor repairs at the bottom of the second cover and the last seven leaves.
