Pour Sganarelle, subtitled Recherche d'un personnage et d'un roman, opens the trilogy in 1965 with an essay, a sort of art of the novel according to Romain Gary. La Danse de Gengis Cohn and La Tête coupable, published respectively in 1967 and 1968, are the novelistic sequels.
