L'Emploi du temps. Paris, Éditions de Minuit, 1956. In-8, garnet morocco, gilt head, cover and spine (D. Mitterrand). First edition. A map of the imaginary city of Bleston-on-Slee, inspired by Manchester, is folded at the end of the volume. One of 40 copies on B.F.K. de Rives, the only large paper. They alone include an original colour etching by Roberto Matta on the frontispiece, signed and justified by the artist in pencil. Autograph correction by the author on p. 118. A major text of the Nouveau Roman, L'Emploi du temps, winner of the Prix Fénéon, is also one of the best productions of this literary movement. A very fine copy bound in jansenist morocco by Danielle Mitterrand, "First Lady of France" from 1981 to 1995. Vignes, n°259.
