Infantry officer saber model 1821, commemorative, offered "In the name of the Emperor" by General PUTHOD to Louis François ORSON, in memory of his action at the battle of Montereau (1814). Horn handle (missing watermark). Gilded brass mounting, guard with two branches. Curved Solingen blade (shortened) with flat back, hollow sides, engraved gilt and blued on the first third then engraved on one side of laurel leaves with cartouche "IN THE NAME OF THE EMPEROR" and on the other "GENERAL PUTHOD TO LF ORSON Lt DES GRENADIERS FOR ACTION () IN MONTEREAU ON FEBRUARY 13. Leather scabbard type 1845 with two gilded brass fittings (missing the bolt) In the state (strong oxidations and pitting). Commemorative manufacture, about 1830. History: This commemorative sword, made after 1821, probably under the July Monarchy commemorates the conduct of Louis François ORSON (1774-1837), nicknamed "Vadeboncoeur", at the Battle of Montereau on February 13, 1814 during the French campaign. The attribution mentions General PUTHOD (and not Pacthod, who was present at Montereau) who was in captivity at the time. Orson had been flag bearer at the 109th half brigade. Seriously wounded at Feldkirch in 1799. He was a grenadier officer. His memoirs were published in 1911. Expert : Mr Jean-Claude Dey
