FARGUE (Léon-Paul) - MOREAU (Luc-Albert). Music-Hall. Paris: Pour les bibliophiles du Palais, 1948. - In-4, 322 x 249 : (2 blank ff.), 156 pp, (8 ff. last 2 blank), illustrated cover. Half red morocco with wide bands, title of the book in capital letters of different morocco on the red morocco bands of the first plate, surmounted by radiating gilt fillets, those on the left continuing on the spine and the second plate, smooth spine, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved (Marot-Rodde). Posthumous first edition of this very beautiful work illustrated with 56 original lithographs in the text and on full page by Luc-Albert MOREAU (1882-1948). It is divided into 12 parts reviewing all the aspects of the music hall which for the author was "the most successful, the most accomplished, the most welcome show, the one that most comfortably ends the rough day of mortals". The titles of these different parts are respectively: Little Tich. - The Promenade. - Grock. - Entr'acte. - Mistinguett. - Maurice Chevalier. - Bal Tabarin. - The eccentrics. - The song. - Balancing acts and jugglers. - From black (Josephine Baker) to white. - Barbette. Edition at 200 copies on Arches vellum pur chiffon, this one (n° 142) specially printed for Maurice Bussillet, enriched with the menu of the dinner given on May 12, 1949 at the Auberge du Coucou on the occasion of the book's release, illustrated with a lithograph by Moreau. Very nice mosaic binding by Marot-Rodde.
