CHINA, MANCHURIA, CA. 1918
Photographs of Belgian soldiers in Manchuria
Composed of 6 original photographs (handwritten notes on the back read "Harbin 1918", "Fou-zia-djan, Manchuria, Chine", "Kharbin Compagnie Belgo-Russe", "Dumont en Chine"), and four later prints depicting Russian and Belgian soldiers, one reads "Troosters, Pierre Depauw, De Jonghe" on the back.
These Belgian soldiers likely belonged to the Corps Expéditionnaire belge des Auto-Canons-Mitrailleuses, and fought alongside the Czarist troops in Russia and during the civil war, and would only have returned to Belgium after WWI by travelling through Siberia and the United States.
