SWORD
German, in the style of the mid-16th century, work from the 2nd half of the 19th century.
Iron hilt, original spherical pommel from ca. 1550, the entire surface is decorated with a finely carved bead pattern, flat rivet head. Octagonal quillons. Large knuckle guard. Large thumb guard. Leather-covered wooden grip. Double-edged blade (L 102 cm), ricasso.
L 120 cm
This extraordinarily rare "Renaissance pommel" from ca. 1550 was carefully handcrafted and "congenially" completed into a sword in the 19th century. Original weapons with such pommels are practically unknown. Cf. R. Forrer: Die Schwerter und Knäufe der Sammlung Carl von Schwerzenbach, 1905, p. 47, Plate XI.
